QUICK NOTE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Greetings Patrons of the Edmore School District
Dear Parents/Guardians,
As we draw near to the end of this school year, I find myself reflecting on the multifaceted roles I've had the privilege to undertake here at Edmore School. Serving as superintendent, bus driver, salad bar attendant, and even a welding instructor has been a truly fulfilling experience. Wearing these various hats throughout the day has been immeasurably rewarding, and I can honestly say that no two days have ever been the same while serving the incredible students and staff of our school.
However, with the closing of this chapter, I must share with you that this will be my final superintendent newsletter. This month marks the end of Edmore School's service to students, as we transition into a year of non-operating status. Students will soon choose neighboring school districts for their education, while our dedicated staff has already secured teaching contracts across North Dakota. Diane and I will remain to oversee the closure of the school, facilitating the transfer of assets to the city for the building's transformation into a community center, ensuring its continued use for years to come.
In this final communication with you, I feel compelled to share some personal reflections. Throughout my 62 years of life, one motto has guided me: "Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying," immortalized by Morgan Freeman's character in "The Shawshank Redemption." It's a philosophy I've strived to embody throughout my career, tirelessly working to enhance the educational experiences of our youth and leaving each school district better than I found it.
When I first arrived in Edmore, the school board charged me with a clear mission: to maintain the quality of education and keep our school open for as long as possible. Over the past 12 years, we've not only met, but exceeded these expectations. We've advocated for legislation allowing for the transfer of school assets to the city, paving the way for the building's future as a community hub.
These accomplishments, to me, epitomize the essence of "Get Busy Living" in the face of impending change. By ensuring the continuation of our community's heartbeat, we've bought precious time for Edmore to thrive rather than stagnate. History is replete with examples of towns on the brink of decline, only to be revitalized by the collective efforts of their citizens. The future of Edmore lies in the hands of each and everyone, and I urge you to envision the future you want for your community and take proactive steps to realize it.
In closing, I want to express my profound gratitude for the privilege of serving the students, staff, school board, and community of Edmore for the past twelve years. As I embark on my next journey of "Get Busy Living," I invite you all to embrace this same spirit as you navigate your paths.
On behalf of the entire staff, student body, and the Edmore School Board, I extend heartfelt thanks to the patrons of the Edmore School District for their unwavering support of our most precious resource: our children.
With warm regards,
Frank Schill Superintendent
