NEWS FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Greetings-
The time has come for me to write my final newsletter as the Edmore School Principal. This is a day I have not looked forward to. For the past 15 years this building has been “my norm”. I have had the pleasure of watching so many children grow into fine young adults. I have witnessed some amazing teachers in the classroom. So many people have entered and left my life during my time at EPS; I often wonder the meaning of our paths crossing. I am the first to admit I have made numerous mistakes, I have shed some tears, I have laughed my heart out, and I have been challenged to change my way of thinking. But most of all, I have grown, and I have remained a lifelong learner. I am not sure what my future has in store for me, but I know I will cherish the moments I have lived through here. I suppose I will recognize the “Edmore School smell” again when it is not permanently embedded in my nose daily. I hope in years to come the students will still recognize me and remember how much I cared for each of them and how I wanted to push them to be the best versions of themselves. To every family that I have had the pleasure of working with, THANK YOU for sharing your children with me. I am so PROUD of everything that has been accomplished at the Edmore Public School!
When this newsletter comes out, we will be preparing to leave on our 5-day educational field trip. We are headed to the Black Hills of South Dakota and our itinerary is filled from sunup to sundown. We will see Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, a gold mine, the National Fish Hatchery, Presidential Wax Museum, Reptile Gardens, Deadwood, Rushmore Cave, & Mammoth Site at Hot Springs. Everyone is looking forward to learning and making lasting memories.
We completed all our state testing, and I am so PROUD at how well our students did. We surpassed the state average on nearly every test in science, math and reading! We just have our end of year assessments and semester tests, and then the students will have wrapped up their final year at Edmore Public School. I know they will be highly successful at their next schools, and in life.
Softball, track, and golf will be wrapping up. Speaking of sports, a big shout out to our senior, Rayce Worley, for dedicating his high school years to athletics. It was so fun to watch you play football and basketball! (He golfs too). We are VERY PROUD that he has made the Shrine Football team. Go watch him play one last time on June 22nd in Mayville!
Our end of year banquet is slated for May 19th. I ask that everyone please return the slips telling us how many from each family will be attending. It is going to be a great evening. I hope we can see everyone there!!
Our last day of school is May 22nd. Graduation is then slated for May 25th at 2:00 p.m. I salute our two graduating seniors, Rayce Worley and Alexis Wilkie! I wish you nothing but the BEST in life. I had the privilege of making some pretty special memories with the two of you. Go conquer the world!
A HUGE shout out to Mr. Schill, our superintendent, for dedicating his years to the Edmore Public School. I have learned so much from you over the years. THANK YOU for being the leader of this ship. It has not always been the easiest working around a bunch of women, but somehow you survived. 😊
Ms. Quinn….YOU ROCK!! My right hand most days…your smile lights up everyone’s day. She does it all without complaining. We have appreciated you more than you know!
To the staff…THANK YOU! Ms. Lagunzad, Mrs. Hernandez, Ms. Ang, Ms. Agaloos, and Ms. Umali….you are the BEST! Thank you for your dedication to EPS. Thank you for giving your all to our students. But most of all, Thank You for your sacrifice of coming to a new country and letting our students learn from you. They have learned so much more than academics from you.
Over the years Ms. Worley and Mrs. Volk-Schill have filled in numerous roles and have stepped up to the plate every time we asked them to try something new. THANK YOU for always giving it your all. The students all have been Blessed to have you in their lives.
Mr. Mattis, we appreciate the work you have done and your commitment to keeping our building clean. He is the first one here and the last to leave each day. THANK YOU for your support of this school and for doing the arduous work.
To the School Board, this hasn’t been the easiest last years, making the tough decisions. However, I do THANK YOU for allowing me to spend my years here. It has been extremely rewarding.
I wish all the students and all the staff nothing but the best in their next chapters. Remember, this is where the ending leads to a new beginning. YOU.CAN.DO.THIS!
In closing, I must thank John, Kaden, & Miranda for the sacrifices they had to endure when I would choose to put the school before them. They have always been so supportive of me. The grandkids will get a little extra attention now. 😊
Again, THANK YOU, from the bottom of my heart, for this opportunity.
Signing off for the last time…..Yours in Education,
Mrs. Martinson, Principal
